Research on China's Pharmaceutical Chain Industry

ABSTRACT

China's pharmaceutical retailing market will be centralized by a large as a series of M&As will be launched by the nation's top pharmaceutical retail chains. In the meantime, the size of market will be expanded in 2008, as the nation will continue attaching more importance to explore the huge rural market. China's pharmaceutical chain industry will be shuffled in two or three years with some small-sized pharmaceutical retailers to be acquired by other big ones. Industry experts forecasted that pharmaceutical retail chains whose sales are expected to exceed CNY 2 billion would reach five to ten over the next three years. The industry has enjoyed a rapid growth, especially in some southern Chinese cities like Shenzhen, since 1995.  However, blind development, severe local protectionism and improper internal management have hindered the industry's boom.
