India Resumed Imports of Telecom Equipment from China   Jul 30, 2010

BEIJING, July 30, SinoCast -- The government of India on July 28, 2010 amended the telecom security agreement, permitting local telecom operators to resume imports of telecom equipment from China.

However, some provisions of the new regulations more stringent and it is still questionable how Chinese companies conduct specific implementation.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Communications of India on the same day issued a statement, saying that all telecom equipment suppliers must share source code and design details, taking the security into consideration. If any security problem takes place after the installation of the telecom equipment, the suppliers must pay penalty regulated on the contract. At the same time, local telecom operators that adopt the equipment are be punished with a penalty of INR 500 million (USD 1 = about INR 46). An official from the ministry showed that the source code and design details will be stored in an encrypted form of escrow account and used when an emergency appears.
