| Alibaba.com Gets over 1mn Registered Members in India Jun 23, 2009 |
NEW DELHI, June 23, SinoCast -- India has become the second largest market of www.alibaba.com, a global trade online marketplace under the aegis of Alibaba.com Limited (HKSE: 1688.HK), a B2B e-commerce leader in China and the world, second only to the United States.
For the moment, India-based midsize and small companies account for 12% of the online marketplace's total registered users. In the past one year, it has lured more than 40,000 India-based midsize and small companies per month. The number of its Indian members has grown to over 1 million from about 500,000 in May 2008.
Alibaba.com gains a 138% surge in terms of number of Indian members, compared with the figure last year, David Wei, and India is the second largest supply market via the Alibaba.com platform after China, chief executive officer and executive director of Alibaba.com, said in detail. 2009 will be Alibaba.com's investment and expansion year.
Alibaba.com totally has three online marketplaces, namely, www.alibaba.com, www.alibaba.com.cn for domestic trade in China, and www.alibaba.co.jp for trade between China and Japan.
